Recommendation of Hotels and Local Transportation in Hong Kong
Hotels
Since I come today for business trip than I wanna stay in a hotel which is right in the city centre and I think about Kowloon, the cool thing about this place is I could reach the MTR station (East Tsim Sha Tsui) within 70 meter right in front of my hotel buildings and surely 7 Eleven and thousand of local food surrounding.
Here I’m gonna share to you about cheap hotel called Marrigold Hostel, read my review on it!
Local Transportation
I try several local transportation during this trip and I suggest you to consider all of them depend on what you expect, so let me explain one by one:
- MTR – If you want to sightseeing Hong Kong in fast and cheap than using its subway called MTR is the best one, you could buy like a 1 day pass or for me than I prefer buy an Octopus Card in an airport
- CAR – During 10 hours of shooting in downtown Hong Kong I want to get more efficient time with my clients so rather to walk down and using the elevator so many times than I ask my clients to rent a car
- TRAM – If you expecting to sightseeing this town in more relax than you could ride with an old tram which cost HKD2 to go everywhere, and hell yeah! I travel from North Point to Causeway Bay which is takes around 30 minutes in a slow speed so I can enjoy the downtown better.
Visiting Hong Kong Within 10 Hours with Public Transportation
Well, I know that some of you will got super tight schedule due to your business or transit time while visiting Hong Kong so I’m gonna share some authentic locations that you can visit before continuing your journey to Macau or the next destinations.
1 – North Point
If you want to see how local people live than you must come to this place, actually this is a nice place to see cause there is a traditional wet market in Chun Yeung Street where people buy groceries, vegies, meat and some herbs but the most lovely thing about it is you gonna see the old traditional tram passing by in the middle of the street.
I’m not joking about this and yes you gonna see the tram passing right in front of you and somebody else and you guys definitely need to aware about it. The tram driver will horn a bel and it sounds like hundred years Hong Kong sounds that so amazing.
2 – Wong Tai Sin Temple
Wong Tai Sin is an old shrine and one of great tourist attraction in Hong Kong, with 18,000 m2 area you can see the beautiful scene of it and usually you gonna see people are praying in the front yard. This shrine is open daily from 7 am to 5pm so make sure you come in the right time, just be aware that so many people going there and keep your attitude while having people praying right in front of you.
3 – Causeway Bay
The next place that you better to visit while visiting Hong Kong is Causeway Bay, you could go to this place by any kind of local transportation even simply ride with HKD2 old Hong Kong tram. There are thousand of people in a junction and this seems like Shibuya junction in Japan so make sure you stay aware with your belonging and my suggestion is bring only light luggage. It’s quite safe but crossing by this junction with a big luggage will seems ridiculous.
4 – Avenue of Star
Never forget to come this area especially for enjoying the 365 days amazing show of Symphony of Lights, when you browse any kind of hotels around Marrigold Hostel, than you can easily come to Avenue of Star by walk and I did it for 20 minutes walk.
The laser show will start at 20.00 and will end at 20.20 so this is 20 minutes amazing show that you can’t forget while visiting Hong Kong. Thousand people are visiting this place for the show so come earlier will be better to get the right spot.
5 – Ferry Pier in Central
If you stay in Four Season Hong Kong than go to Ferry Pier is in a walking distance, there are wooden chair where you can sit for whole day without any warning from somebody else. See the foggy view with some high rise Hong Kong buildings and old ferry passing by in front of you could be great activities to enjoying Hong Kong.
Conclusion
There’s always some ways to sightseeing Hong Kong in very tight schedule and you could do it with public transportation like bus or MTR but if you considering to be more efficient than rent a car will be the best option for transportation. My personal recommendation is no matter what kind of transportation that you use but consider to try the old Hong Kong tram to sightseeing around, it is slow but you can enjoy this city better than using any kind of car, bus, or train.
