Yes sure…why not!
Photography is an art and gears are just tools so the most important thing in this business is not the gears but selling your self as the professional and surely your works. If you have a deep pocket than you can buy brand new camera for sure even it costs thousand of dollar doesn’t include your marketing and education cost. But if you just started to become a wedding photographer at the very first time than I could suggest you these 2 (two) things:
- All gears are SAME so don’t be a gears fanatics at your first time photographer career
- Using CHEAP and USED camera gears are still OK
Back in 2008 and when I starting my photography studio my mom bought me a brand new one Canon EOS 400D or we called as Canon Rebel. I got the kit lens 18-55mm f3.5 – 5.6 on this camera and in the next few years I got 17-40mm f4 L and 70-200mm f2.8 L. All my L series is big investment but I buy only medium level camera than I can afford to work, lately I know using cheap or used camera and gears are still fine to work cause the most important thing is myself and artworks.

Each gears that I’m gonna mentioned below are my personal recommendation, it means I ever used all these gears back few years ago to shoot wedding and portrait. I could say if you looking for cheap professional camera for wedding photographer than all of these gears are still reliable for sure.

When I shoot an engagement session back few years ago I using this old Canon EOS 60D with 24-70mm f2.8 L series lens. The most amazing experience by using this used camera under US$400 is it comes with a nice LCD that you can flip so you can shoot with uncommon angle. Now take a look for the result below.
Honestly it was a mirror reflection photo, you could see the green mirror frames and I ask my bride to put her hand on her fiancee’s neck.
It comes from 62mm, f2.8, and 1/125 exposure time
This legendary full frame camera gear was awesome, it shoots slow but colour and result are still amazing. I bring this stuff to Maldives while I shoot for engagement session in such beautiful resort called Lux* Maldives.
When I shoot on this frame I use Canon EOS 5D Mark II and 70-200mm f2.8 L series lens than everything you see here is come through 100% available light. When you see in more detail on my couple’s face, there is orange and yellow colour and it comes directly from the sunset light and it was beautiful!

When I check about this camera, seems to be really rare so if you want to buy this beast for your own may choosing the Nikon D800E will be better. I bring my 50mm f1.4 on this camera and got superb images on sunset golden time in nice wooden bridge spot around Jakarta Indonesia.
I love available and here I still using the most gorgeous sunset light, so when you see on the background sea view, those water reflection in yellow colour aare directly from the sunset light too, it’s amazing!
