Good Preparation for Your Iceland Wedding Celebration
Before we talk about your wedding in Iceland, let me tell you about 3 simple facts about this beautiful country:
- Glaciers – be amazed cause some large are in Iceland is covered by the glaciers which is making this country more unique than others
- There is NO Forest – when the Viking came, they crap all the forest and cutting down almost all the trees. The government putting the high effort to re-forestation but the 1st impression of visiting Iceland is still lack about trees
- Eco friendly – I ever see on Iceland Lonely Planet that this country is burn only few fossil fuels, rather use it for energy, Iceland use the hydro and geothermal to provide over than 80% energy that support for whole country
How to Go to Iceland and Where to Stay
Icelandair and Wow air are two Iceland based airlines that you can to travel, if you looking for the ticket on Skyscanner that they commonly provide a discount flight from the US or any other destination.
If you are an American than you can fly to Iceland without Visa and departing from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Pittsburg, Washington, Miami, New York, and surely Boston. But no matter where you come from than I suggest you to check Iceland Visa Information to get clear about your travel.
Your accommodation is really matters and it depend on where do you want to stay, Reykjavic is the Iceland capital and the largest city people used to stay once they arrive. There are so many hotels, apartment, or lodge that you can book using Booking.com but to make it simple so let me give you some recommendation:
- Skeggi Apartments – location is superb and you can go sightseeing around the downtown easily
- The Swan House – the bed is super comfy and there is kitchen and dining area on your room
- Reykjavic Treasure B&B – the owner was super humble, you definitely love them
What to Bring to Iceland
Visiting Iceland is truly wonderful and you need several things to bring on your luggage. Generally it’s a wedding destination that you can combine between cityscape and surely the nature even most of couple who going there will explore the nature better.
Before you put your waterproof jacket on your luggage than you must buy your waterproof walking shoes, cause it is very hard to explore the nature of Iceland on your flat shoes. For sure you must bring your wedding dress for special photo shoot with me but make sure to cover your head and ear by winter hat or beanie once the photo shoot is done, it’s really cold out there.

I want you to have the most outstanding place for your dream Iceland wedding celebration. Everybody knows that this country got tons of magnificent scenery but for having wedding, you definitely must know venues that not only great but it able to provide your wedding services.
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
When you try to browse about best place to visit in Iceland than Reynisfjara is the first iconic and super cool beach that showing up. Located close to the village Vik in Myrdalur on the Iceland’s South Coast, this majestic beach can be reach by 2 hours driving (180 kilometers) from the capital city Reykjavik.
By the way in 1991 the National Geographic voted Reynisfjara as one of non-tropical beach that must visit and how to be safe in this beach is stay away at least 30 meter from wave.
Dyrhólaey – The Arch with a Hole
My second recommendation of the best spot to held your Iceland wedding celebration is Dyrholaey or called as the Arch with a Hole. Basically it is a nearby landmark if you visit Reynisfjara beach before. Please note that if you taking an engagement shots during May to August that this gonna be the best time to see cute puffin.
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
On the way to Reynisfjara beach than I highly suggest you to discover the beauty of amazing and iconic waterfall called Seljalandsfoss, trust me you must be here!
Seljalandsfoss it self is a part of Katla Geopark where you can see the waterfall drop down from 60 meter high over an ancient sea cliff and the best thing is, the water is coming from the Seljalands River from the volcano glacier. The best way to see the glamorous waterfall is not from the front, but turn around when you get back from behind than it was fantastic!
Myrdalsjokull Glacier Park
The next stop will be in a Myrdalsjokull, the most scenic glacier park that you can’t miss once you touch down in Iceland. There are so many tour operator where you can hiking and sightseeing around Myrdalsjokull but if you visit here for an engagement photo shoot than taking a photo in one of its side is quite enough while you taking a deep breath and enjoying the magnificent scenery that you never seen before.
Skaftafell Nature Reserve
Skaftafel national park was open in 1967 but in 2008 it became a part of Vatnajokull national park. When you’re done with your photo shoot that I suggest you to stop there for few days and enjoying the magnificent view that you will always had once you open your eyes in the morning.
Staying in a close by Skaftafel hotel and accommodation will give you more time to relax, walking in a distance and feel the clear air surrounding.
Destination Photography for Your Iceland Wedding Celebration
When I start my studio in 2008 I just talk to my wife, Nina who belong to my personal assistant and make up artist that we will focusing our services into destination wedding photography. Starting that point I always encourage my couple to do overseas photo shoot both for engagement and wedding.
So here in my blog you will see some wedding photos that I capture in such beautiful place like Bali and Maldives.
I flew to Bali periodically and shooting in a magnificent cliff-front resort just like what this Italian-Indonesian couple Danilo and Eka’s Wedding in the Sanctus Villa Uluwatu. My journey is keep going in till back few months ago I also travel to Maldives and serving surprise engagement photo shoot for Denise and Joel that taken in Angsana Velavaru, by the way they coming from Singapore.
So having a special photo shoot for gorgeous couple like you and documenting your Iceland wedding celebration is an honor for me.
