It’s about Yogyakarta,
a small city in Indonesia as a place where I stay for over than 30 years, I love eating and I love to try new street food here in my town so down here are several photos that taken from my small mirrorless camera or just an ordinary smartphone that I had
And now I’m going to Singapore
Several months ago I took my family to go to Singapore and enjoying for every single corner of this city that feels like my second hometown. What I love for being here is all the food is coming from the existing culture of India, Malay, Chinese, and Arab so surely I got tasty and delicious Singaporean food for sure during 4 days. In general, all this food is about something that I ate during my holiday.
5 Lazy Steps of My Food Photography Tricks for Beginner
So guys, we all together know that we must eat every day and for whom who love street food that you are being the most blessed people on earth because I know my self that street food are amazing.
Now I’m back to the main topic so I will tell you my secret and everyone’s secret of become a better person who know about food photography tricks, and I know you guys ready!
1 – Love Eating
Eating…eating…and eating this is one thing that you must love for the first so no matter where you are as long as you love eating than go try to take the photos and you gonna surprise for the result.
Why eating is my first step?
If you want to share your food photos to everyone than you must able to feel how the food is, and the only way to do that is just by eating! Once you put the food into your mouth than you able to taste it, here you gonna feel the salt, the tender of the meat, the sweet of the sauce and everything
So….
The only way to make good food photos is you must love eating!
I think that it’s not that difficult because everyone is must eating so train your self to pick up your smartphone and start shooting for food that already set right in front of you. Surely don’t disturb somebody else or even you don’t need to step up on your chair but simply doing it by sit down and put your camera’s phone up
2 – Try in Classic Different Angle, Zoom In and Zoom Out!
If you want to take a picture than always think to give a different perspective for your viewers, I know that people who being so expert are able to think in extreme angle but if you just want to make this food photography tricks easier than I have a clue for that.
Now see these two photos of tasty chicken Hainan rice that I ate in Tanjung Katong Singapore,
So this two photos are same object, when my S$4 Hainan rice is coming so I pick up my camera and put this gourmet food right in front of me and I know that I already got a beautiful background from the table colour. I don’t move the angle of camera so what I did is taking the rice from more further which is you are able to zoom out your lens (for the 1st photo) and I zoom in my lens so I can get the detail which is mean close to the object (for the 2nd photo).
Voila…now I got 2 different perspective of my delicious chicken Hainan rice, and yes you can do it as same as what I did without feeling worry anymore.
3 – Try to Give Best Lighting for the Obeject
See this photo above, it just an ordinary object of bread and cookies that I bought on 7 Eleven and simply put it on the white plastic plate. If you could see in the detail there is a baby stroller on the left and my son’s hair on the right, but it doesn’t matter after all if you could make some natural effect of your photos.
I don’t use any artificial lighting on this frame but what I do is hold up the place with my left hand and get closer to the window that set on the left side, so in photography we called it as the window lighting. By doing this technic than you gonna get a darker effect for the background and detail on the object so even I got baby stroller and my son’s head behind than my primary object is still clear.
4 – Set Your Camera on Auto Mode is Just Fine
Some people are set their camera on manual mode even I did it too in special moment but generally now everyone get a smart gadget both for smartphone or digital camera so even you set your gadget on auto mode than you still able to make great photo.
All you need to concern is just making a clear and detail shots because if you able to do this than you will definitely make a great food photos.
5 – Tilt Your Object
After you know about zoom in and zoom out at the first step now you can do the last lazy steps of my food photography tricks and this is about tilting your object.
See my rice box photo below,
I ordered this tasty rice, broccoli, and sweet chicken for just S$3,90 on the nearest food cart in Singapore, hell yeah you still can see the red rubber on the right and plastic box on the left. What I did in this frame is open up the box and tilt it to the left. All the lighting is coming from my room light at the ceiling and window’s lighting from behind the box, generally I shoot this rice box on the floor.
By simply tilting your object than you also get another new angle of your food photo which is so brilliant and really easy to do by everyone.
