In fact you don’t need to buy any pricy photography gears to shoot some food for your cafe or bistro because an entry level DSLR like Nikon D3500 or smart mirrorless camera like Fuji X-T100 is quite enough to creating mouth watery photo that make every potential guest feels hungry. Nowadays I’m using my favourite mirrorless camera that cost less than $250, the first generation of Canon EOS M, it’s an old camera but it still works as well for shooting any travel and food photos no matter where I go.

Canon EOS M Bekas (TAPI MASIH) Keren Buat Bikin Konten
Halo teman-teman semua hari ini saya mau cerita tentang sebuah kamera bekas yang dari tahun 2014 lalu hingga sekarang masih sering saya pakai untuk berkarya …
When you want to take a nice food photos without spend any ridiculous budget for lighting or pricy camera than I highly suggest you to put your food in the fine available light which is mean a place that come with great and soft sun light. So when I took this photo I simply put the oval ceramic bowl on the table and make sure it has great sun light that fill in all the objects inside like the grilled chicken, sambal matah, and the vegie.
My Canon EOS M come with 2 great lenses by the way, it’s a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and Canon EF-M 22mm f2 STM Compact System Lens and since I need super sharp image for this food photo session than I choose the 22mm better than the other one. When you taking this 22mm lens than it has a maximum aperture of f.2 that you can set and this setting is superb for taking any detail shots like food, jewellery, or toys.
Generally I love this amazing 22mm lens for sure!
Surely I shoot several photos for this Spicy Chicken with Sambal Matah,
And lately I got one photo that feels like the best for my presentation book menu. Another simple tools that you can use to make a better food photos is white paper which is come with great soft reflection even you can bend it to make great background.
3 Simple Steps to Retouch My Spicy Chicken with Sambal Matah
Honestly you can use any Photoshop series even here I use my Photoshop CC 2018 because generally working in this software is quite same and my tutorials will come with common feature that every series provided too.
1 – Make a Simple Selection with Lasso Tool
Lasso tool is one great feature that Photoshop had so use this simple tool to select all the details that you to adjust, at this time I’m focusing on the rice, grilled chicken, sambal matah and mix vegetables. You don’t need to be precise because after this I’m gonna suggest you to use other selection tools that will help you to smoothing your selection.
2 – Use the Feather Selection to Make it Smooth
Once you’re done selecting some part than use this Feather Selection to smoothing those part, bigger number that you fill in than make your selection smoother and it easier to adjust the colour, here I put 150!
3 – Adjusting the Level
Having a level adjustment seems to be basic colour correction because you can simply drag the bar and you gonna see the result instantly. There is no specific number about adjusting level but my suggestion is trying as many as you can and feel it as your own post production style till you found your own setting.
4 – Put the Magic in with Saturation
This fourth step will looks amazing because here you gonna adjust the colour detail of your food and the easiest tool to do it is by using the Saturation tool which you can simply put some number on its column than you will see the difference within a second.
5 – Fixing Your “Almost Done” Image by Smart Sharpen Filter
Taking a filter is one cool tools to finalize your image, here I use blur filter to remove any noise effect and I use smart sharpen filter to make the things that I’m concern in sharp look. Please be careful with this filter because if you put the number to much than your image will looks grainy or it will has some noise effect which is really bad for food photography.
It’s done within few minutes but let me guide you with the video too
