Get Started in Photography Business was ain’t easy!
Get started in photography business from scratch isn’t easy thing even I’m already familiar with camera since 3 years before my university graduation day. Few things has gonna change after all, as a guy who still stay together with parents wouldn’t think in detail cause my parents keep gave me money even for fuel up my motor tank but after all I change my position with my parents into someone who responsible to take cover all of the living cost.
From this, I have to think about cash-flow, marketing cost, economic decrease value of all equipment, annually website cost, and even more a seminar and workshop to increase my knowledge, everything is totally changed! and now I have to learn more about how to get started in photography business from zero.
Being a wedding photographer is not as simple as taking picture but it is about capturing moments so I need more experiences to serving client, both in technical and non-technical. A classic problem suddenly came to me, the Price War, which is become a nightmare for every photographer no matter where we are and to solve it I can’t compete my self with other photographer which is in the same place with me. I should open my mind and know the international standard of client satisfaction from the best wedding photographer in this world.
Bima, Good is NOT ENOUGH, You MUST BE EXCELLENT!

During 4 years I compete with any other photographer who also belong to my friends, I can tell you that this just like a “full blood body contact” and head to head price war, and definitely costs really high energy, so my focus is not in quality but only how to get deal with the couple. From deep inside my heart I just want to quit from this bloody hell competition but I don’t know how till I met an Indonesian based wedding photographer known as Ricky Salim who ever been a best 20 wedding photographer in the world.
Met a pro like him is not so scare like met my lecture, he was so humble and teach me everything about photography both in technical and marketings. He also allow me to accompany him in some wedding photo shoot so I can know how he treat his couple, how to shoot like a maestro, and how to finalize the photos into album which is ready to deliver to the couple.
One of Ricky’s quote that I really mean is “Bima, Good is NOT ENOUGH, You MUST BE EXCELLENT!”, It just simple words that he always says to me every single meet in cafes, restaurant, or even when I visit him in his lovely office in Denpasar Bali, overall Ricky definitely change my whole mind about how to get started in photography business from the deep zero.
