Hi there my name is Bima and thank you for visiting my photography blog, few days ago I share about my studio Lightroom presets called Forever Thine that boost my work so great, if this gonna be your first time to visit my blog than better for you to read it too, but in case you wanna hear for what I had during bankruptcy story than keep continue to read this!
Professional Photography Cameras, Do You Really Need It?
Sometimes we have to live our life not as what we think, for example being a guitarist without a guitar in our hand, being a scientist without a laboratory for our research and that’s what I’ve got in this wedding photography business. Before I bankrupt in 2012 I never think there is an economic decrease value of my gears mean I never put some money to recover my gears so when I choose to move to world-wide market and shutting down my traditional market I have to sell all the gears so I can feed my family.
Till now no matter how much money I’ve grab from my client I still rent the gears, in my hometown in Yogyakarta Indonesia my best friend have a camera rental business so everyone who don’t have a professional photography cameras still able to serve their client. This is what I did for several years no matter I went to Hong Kong, Bali, Maldives, etc I still rent to fulfill my needs. The worse thing about renting a gears is we spend much money without having them, we always confused once we deal with a couple about what gears that we have to rent and how much money should we spend for it.
But the great thing about renting a professional camera is now I have my own calculation about using a gears. In 2014 when a Hong Kong couple asked me to go to Maldives for pre wedding I bought my first camera, this is mirror-less camera actually known as EOS M and this gonna be the 1st edition of EOS M and I still use it right now to make a behind the scene video that I sell to my client for USD200….even though if I rent for 1 set of professional photography cameras like Canon 5D mark II or the Nikon D800 including 2 premium lenses I have to spend about USD50/day.
I choose to not using an installment cause I want my business grow up smoothly and I can save my money. I can’t say that this is an easy thing to do cause we all know that camera is our primary tools that we should have but for sure I will buy it very soon. Over than 5 years I use the Canon and once I try the Nikon I just want to try this system, I sure that both this company is amazing so there is no specific reason for me to move from Canon to Nikon, all I want to know is just the experience.
The great thing of working in photography business is we can grow up our business step by step, no need a rush to fulfill our needs even from the gears till the marketing costs. Once we receive a payment we can spend it to buy our gears one by one and we keep the others for saving, than if another couple send us a payment we can do the same things till we can buy all of gears that we need. Even there is no camera rental in your city just keep going in this business, cause there is always a way to solve our problem, this industry is really amazing and I want to live in it forever.
Conclusion
As a photographer you definitely need professional photography cameras for sure but in case you don’t have much money to start your business than buying a second hand camera from Amazon or rent it are also great decision.
Make sure you focusing on marketing both for your own and the studio cause you will got money once you got your first couple to be shoot. I hope this story able to inspire you to keep stand up and live through your passion, pushing the camera shutter and capturing moments. I will keep share all my photography journey on this blog so I will stay around!
