After few times passing by this place than I’m so grateful that few weeks ago I’ve been entering Ambarawa Railway Museum on the way to go to Semarang City for exploring its historical building. On that day I drove my car in early morning directly after I finish my morning pray and pick up my mom in law so she also can see the museum which she ever visit couple years ago when still working in a bank company.
Dear lovely people my name is Bima and thank you for visiting my blog, here I will share everything about my artworks in wedding photography till some other journey that I had during my business trip. I built this blog back in 2010 even I just bought the domain in hosting since 2008 and definitely love how my hosting company, Bluehost, provide me great features and blogging infrastructure that I never found in other platform.
I love to write for everything that I had in my photographer career life because I did it as a husband and wife small company with my gorgeous and beautiful wife, Nina. Just after she resign from her accounting firm in Yogyakarta we just develop and run our business together. Actually she helps me a lot to bring all my gears when I shoot for wedding till become my special make up and hair do artist for several couple who really need her help because we travel so far away as same as what we got in our previous session in Maldives.
Amazing!
That’s my first word to say about this museum, it was so great and clean for common tourist attraction than all the facilities were so great including cool library in the train that make my kids sit down for little while and enjoying to read some encyclopaedia books. I was driving with the whole family and transit in Ambarawa for about two hours before continue to Kendal and Semarang.
My wife Nina was pregnant for my 4th kids and I bring my mom in law and three kids so this experience was so meaningful for all of us. Just like me in a childhood life, whole kids are so excited to visit this museum and see how the old and vintage train looks like. Since we go to Surakarta a year ago my kids always asking me about old steam train that used hundred years ago while the Dutch government come to Indonesia.
How to Go to Ambarawa Railway Museum from Yogyakarta
Now lets get back to my main topic of today, the journey to Ambarawa Railway Museum.
This museum is located on Jalan Stasiun, Jl. Panjang Kidul No.1, Panjang Kidul, Panjang, Kec. Ambarawa, Semarang, Jawa Tengah 50614 Indonesia, you might write it on your note if you going to this amazing museum. Generally you will easily can find the signage to go to this museum once you passing by the Rawa Pening complex, it’s gigantic swamp with a scenic view of mountain and surely you could stopping by for a minutes just to enjoy the view.
I’m not quite sure that you could go here on public transport so I highly suggest you to rent a car with English speaking driver from Yogyakarta and take a joy ride with nice view surrounding.
Ticket price or admission is so cheap, it cost around US$1-2 per pax and you could pay more if you want to join train cruise to sightseeing around the city that take around 45 minutes. This cruise will open only in Saturday and Sunday and you must come early (around 7 or 8 am) because so many local tourist visit this museum just to join this train cruise. BY the way, I’m not so lucky because I went there on weekday so I could not join this amazing cruise to introduce all the train system to my kids.
If you leave from Yogyakarta at early morning than you will arrive in this museum after 1,5 to 2 hours (around 80 km from Yogyakarta), all the surrounding view were so amazing and you gonna see rice paddy field, hills, and mountain that will blow your mind, you might also to turn of your car AC and open your window because the air will so fresh and morning temperature was so nice, it would be around 20 to 22 degree Celsius.
The museum is quite huge so if you bring the whole family than you need around 1,5 to 2 hours to explore the whole complex, in fact I only spend around an hour because we have to catch our schedule to go to Semarang city.
The most exciting moment is, is every train there is a footnote where I could read the history and know when the train is used to operated both by Indonesia and Dutch government, and yes you also could tell it to your kids while exploring the Ambarawa Railway Museum in a full of joy.
The Pictures of Ambarawa Railway Museum
Now let me take you to see deeper about this incredible museum, it starts from the entrance, main building, till the train collection.
I still upload many other photos where you also can use it for your own copy as a content for your blog or news by downloading on Shutterstock portfolio, generally if you buy on Shutterstock than you could get some options like prepaid image pack till annual plans, definitely this is great platform if you need any content like photos or videos for your own blog.
Here in this museum you will see some old and vintage steam train collection that still use wood fire to produce the steam, surely it need several hours to start up the engine just like what we saw in Surakarta. After you see the train collection than there is a train compartment that modify into library where you can sit and read some books with your kids. I saw two officer who accompany all the visitors inside the library and they were so nice and helpful for everyone who looking for the books.
Don’t miss another spots where you can see the old main building of the train station, everything is fully restored and proper to visit including the office, some gears, and retro bells in the station.
Hotels Recommendation to Stay Nearby the Museum
If you visiting Ambarawa and surrounding city for a night transit than I highly suggest you to book your hotel on Agoda, generally I’ve been a loyal customer with this great platform since 2010 when I went to Singapore for honeymoon with my wife.
In more specific I could suggest you to stay in these several options hotels such as:
- The Wujil, located in Bandungan which is located just few minutes driving from the museum, and
- Griya Persada Bandungan, a brand new hotel which is built in 2018
Generally Bandungan is a nearby city from the Ambarawa Railway Museum and this city is quite nice because I might sure that the infrastructure is better than Ambarawa it self
